Two products derive from this process: the granules (heavy part) derived from the crown of the cob and the flours (light part) deriving from the external parts and the pith.
The main applications of the granules are: polishing and smoothing of metal objects, sandblasting of wood.
During use Pan Blast does not create toxic powders for the body
Pan Blast allows completely ecological shot blasting which does not cause health problems to the operator.
Given their elasticity, the granules do not shatter on impact, and this feature makes them not only reusable (with special sheets placed on the ground), but above all indispensable where normal sandblasting would cause irreparable damage (such as the woolly effect on wood, caused by inert silica granules).
The equipment that is normally used for sandblasting is well suited to the use of this product also because there is no problem of inert silica granules that can cause silicosis for the operator.
USE
- To clean planks and beams from rubble.
- To remove paints and varnishes.
- To remove the patina accumulated on the wood over the years.
- To evenly smooth and highlight the veins on newly cut timber.
- To strip and clean the external parts of wooden and fiberglass boats.
- It can also be used for delicate metals such as aluminium
CONSUMPTION
Sandblasting can be carried out in a more or less marked way, consequently the consumption of the product depends on the type of result to be obtained. With 20 kg of product, 5 to 10 square metres of surface can be cleaned, consumption varies according to the quantity of dirt to remove.
With a 6 mm nozzle approximately 160 kg per hour are consumed, while with a 9 mm nozzle approximately 300 kg per hour are consumed at a pressure of 6-7 atm.
Cleaning a painted wooden ceiling takes about 4 kg of product per square metre.
ADVANTAGES
The increasing diffusion of the use of abrasive granules is motivated by various positive characteristics:
- It is a fairly hard material (4.5 degrees on the MHOS scale) and at the same time soft and elastic;
- the granules are clean (no dust) and biodegradable;
- do not cause sparks during their use;
- do not damage the mechanics of sandblasters;
- no problem for disposal, since they are a plant product that can be recycled as urban waste;
- they have a high power of absorption of liquids, thanks to the particular alveolar structure of the cells of the granules that can quickly absorb and remove polluting substances making the cleaning process faster;
- they are reusable.
GRAINS SIZE
The grain sizes of the corn cob granules, which we call AB, start from 'AB04 (very large granules) up to AB200 (an almost impalpable flour):
Normally a product with a grain size between 0.4 and 0.7 mm is used, classified as AB30.
For sandblasting with an aged effect or with severe scratch marks and for hard woods, type AB 20 is used, which has a grain size between 0.7 and 1 mm.
For special finishing works, the AB80 type is used, which has a grain size between 0.2 and 0.5 mm.
